How it's measured
Derived: φD = (ρma − ρb) / (ρma − ρf). The assumed matrix density (2.65 sandstone, 2.71 limestone, 2.87 dolomite) sets the zero point.
How it's used
Neutron-density crossplot porosity and gas detection via density-over-neutron crossover; a quick-look porosity when the matrix is known.
Common gotchas
Fully dependent on the matrix and fluid assumptions and inherits RHOB's washout and mudcake problems — check DRHO and the caliper. Gas drives it too high, and it should reconcile with any DPHI on the same well.

Recorded as DPOR (or DPHI, PHID) in v/v or %. The matrix may be encoded in the mnemonic suffix.
